SUM Cell lines culture media

SUM cell lines and culture requirements.  The base medium for all formulations is Ham’s F12 medium.

Abbreviations: SF=Serum Free, 5%=medium containing 5% FBS, H=hydrocortisone, I=Insulin, E=Epidermal Growth Factor, PT=Primary Tumor, PE=Pleural Effusion, CWN=Chest Wall Nodule

Additional Notes:

  1. SUM44PE cells are density-dependent. Splitting at too low a density will result in no growth of these cells.
  2. All cell lines are grown in humidified, 37°C incubators with 10% CO2.
  3. When trypsinizing cells, add trypsin for the indicated time. Then remove trypsin and place “dry” plate in the incubator for the indicated time. Firmly tap the plate on the bench to detach cells before adding medium.  Do not forget to add 2% FBS for the first 24 hours to cell lines grown in serum-free medium.
