The HCC1937 Breast Cancer Cell Line

The HCC1937 cell line was derived from the primary breast ductal carcinoma of a 24 year old Caucasian female with a familial BRCA1 mutation.   The patient and cell line were/are ER-negative and HER2 negative, and the cells have been classified as a Basal A type breast cancer  based on the expression profile.  Complete genomic data and other information relevant to this breast cancer cell line can be found here at Cellosaurus, or here at COSMIC, or here at DepMap portal.

Oncogene Signature: Note that the oncogene signature shown below as derived from the data mining tools does not include some mutations that are noted in Cellosaurus, including the homozygous BRCA1 mutation, the deletion of the PTEN gene, and an RB1 mutation.  Interestingly, the deletion of PTEN is a common occurrence in BRCA1 mutant breast cancers, as these cells typically exhibit the Tandem Duplicator Phenotype as described recently by Menghi and Liu.

HCC1937 drug sensitivities.  Once again, as a Basal A, triple negative breast cancer cell line there are no drug sensitivities that meet the standard for Tier 1 or Tier 2 drugs.   And, like so many other cell  lines of this lineage, the GDSC1 data set reports high sensitivity of this cell line to the two drugs that target the WNT activator PORCN.
