The SUM-229PE cell line was derived from a small pleural effusion specimen that came to the lab. The resulting cell line is a classic triple negative breast cancer cell line of the basal subtype. And, like many such cell lines, these cells have a KRAS point mutation, a common TP53 mutation and they overexpress MYC at the mRNA level.
